Victory Day celebrated in Rajshahi amid massive enthusiasm

RAJSHAHI, Dec 16, 2020 (BSS) – The auspicious Victory Day was celebrated in the divisional city as well as different parts of the district today with a renewed vow for building Bangladesh as a happy, prosperous and non-communal country in the spirit of the Great War of Liberation.

Rajshahi City Corporation, Divisional and district administrations, Police administrations, scores of political, socio-cultural, voluntary, professional bodies and trade organisations placed wreaths at different Shaheed Minars at Bhuban Mohan Park, Rajshahi College, Talaimari, Rajshahi University, Police Lines and Collectorate Building.

City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League celebrated the day through various programmes like victory rally, placing of wreaths, discussion meeting and other cultural functions.

The programmes of the day heralded with a 31gun- salute at dawn on the local Police Line Parade Ground.

The day’s programmes also included hoisting of the national flag atop all public and private buildings, illumination and decoration of road islands, roadsides, educational institutions and buildings with national flag and coloured miniature posters and banners.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton placed wreaths at Bhuban Mohan Park first followed by scores of others including leaders of different political parties.

In the early morning, streams of people irrespective of age and sex thronged the city streets leading to the Shaheed Minars.

To mark the day of jubilation, the foundation stone of central Shaheed Minar in Rajshahi city has been unveiled on the abandoned site of the Engineering and Survey Institute of today. Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Fazely Hossain Badsha, MP, flanked by many language veterans and valiant freedom fighters unveiled the stone.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Humayun Kabir Khandaker hoisted the national flag formally at the premises of Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Patriotic song competition, discussion meeting, prize distribution and cultural programmes were held at Shilpakala Academy and Shishu Academy.

Special prayers were arranged at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship.

Improved diets were served among the inmates of hospitals, jails, orphanages and vagabond centers in the district on the occasion.

Meanwhile, educational institutions including Rajshahi University (RU), Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Medical University and Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) have also celebrated Victory Day through separate programmes.
