Victory Day celebrated in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Dec 15, 2020 (BSS) – The 50th Victory Day was celebrated in the district today paying rich homage to the martyred who laid down their lives for the country during the Liberation War.

The programme of the day started with 31 gun salute in the dawn.

Wreath was placed on the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Shaheed Smriti Soudho.

Deputy Commissioner S M Ferdous, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rifat Rahman Shamim, leaders of political parties and people of all walks of life including socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths on the portrait.

A reception was accorded to the war wounded Freedom Fighters, Martyred Freedom Fighters families on the occasion.

Special prayers were also offered at the mosques praying eternal peace of the departed soul of the martyred freedom fighters.

A discussion was also held under the auspices of Islamic Foundation Manikganj district office on ‘Protection of terrorism, militancy and extremist’.

S M Ferdous, Deputy Commissioner, Manikganj was present in the discussion as the chief guest. While Md. Jamal Hossain, Deputy Director, Islamic Foundation presided over the function. Deputy Commander, Manikganj District Freedom Fighters Command Council Md. Momin uddin Khan, Manikganj District Awami League Joint Secretary AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, Maulana Md, Atiqur Rahman, Principal, Manikganj Kamil Madrasa and Freedom Fighter Engineer Faruk Hossain attended it as the special guests.

Documentary films on liberation war were also screened to mark the day.
