Victory Day being celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 16, 2020 (BSS) – The Victory Day is being celebrated here today in a befitting manner amid the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation.

Marking the day, district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes.

The day’s programme began with heralding 31 gun salutes soon after the sun rises, placing wreaths at the monument at Gaibandha Pouro Park.

The wreaths were placed by district administration, police department, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district AL, and other political parties, district BMA, educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations in the morning.

Later, the national flag was hoisted at the Circuit house of the town.

A discussion meeting was also held at the conference room of the DC following health guidelines with DC Abdul Matin in the chair.

Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini attended the meeting as the chief guest while SP Towhidul Islam, General secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique and former deputy commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Gaibandha unit command Goutom Chandra Modok were present as the special guests.

The speakers said the people from all walks of life responded to the clarion call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and engaged in the War of Liberation.

After nine-month blood-stained war, the nation achieved independence on this day in 1971 under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu, they said.

Mahabub Ara Begum Gini recalled with profound respect the greatest Bangalee of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh.

Later, prizes were distributed among the winners participated in the art and essay writing competition marking the victory day followed by a cultural function.

The artistes of zilla shilpakala academy rendered patriotic songs and performed dances.

Apart from this, special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and improved diets were also served among inmates in the hospitals, jail and orphanage centres.
