Everything is quite fine between me and Mushfiqur: Nasum

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2020 (BSS)—Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed who felt the ire of captain Mushfiqur Rahim during his side’s Eliminator game against Fortune Barishal on Monday opened up about the incident, stating that all the things happened due to the pressure of the ‘do or die’ match.

He claimed that his off the field bonding with Mushfiqur Rahim is quite fine and he didn’t take the incident to heart.

Through a facebook post, he also made it clear that the way the matter was transpired is not acceptable.

“Hope everybody is well. I am also good Alhamdulillah. Many of you are writing about me and Mushfiqur bahi since yesterday’s match, which is not acceptable,” the facebook post said.

“What you see on the TV set may happen on the field. Yesterday our Miss Effort level was a little too high. Particularly in yesterday’s match I feel like I was effortless. Mushfiqur Bhai was very serious and dedicated in the match and the team had more expectations from me. Anyway, we ended the matter on the field. And my off-field bonding with Mushfiqur Bhai is also very good. Even in this tournament he has given me a lot of time individually on how to do better and how to overcome weaknesses quickly,” the post said further.

Dhaka won the match eventually by nine runs to move to the second Qualifier but Mushfiqur’s rude behavior to his junior teammate sparked widespread criticism.

Mushfiqur, also the former Bangladesh captain, appeared to punch and throw the ball to Nasum on two occasions during that match.

However Nasum doesn’t want to term the matter as serious one.

“None of us did anything serious. I have talked to him many times in the dressing room and at the team hotel after the match. Moreover, he is like my older brother. So he can rebuke me as a big brother and captain. Please don’t write about this anymore. Today we have an important game. Everyone please pray for us.”

Mushfiqur Rahim however apologized to Nasum Ahmed for misbehaving with him twice on the field.

The Dhaka captain Mushfiqur Rahim at the same time also sought apology to his fans and spectators, through a Facebook post today.

The wicket-keeper batsman said, he realized his gesture was not acceptable at all and promised that things like these will not be repeated in future.

The Facebook post accompanied a picture of Mushfiqur and Nasum sitting together at a gym, smiling to the camera.
