COVID-19 cases cross 14,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 15, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has crossed the 14,900 marks in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate of the deadly virus is showing a fluctuating trend in recent days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 14,905 in the division with 57 more infections reported on Monday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 57 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Monday at the daily infection rate of about 15.16 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 16.15 percent on Sunday, 20.69 percent on Saturday, 10.64 percent on Friday, 13.03 percent on Thursday and 15.42 on Wednesday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 14,905 patients stands at stands at 3,803 in Rangpur, 753 in Panchagarh, 1,280 in Nilphamari, 942 in Lalmonirhat, 987 in Kurigram, 1,442 in Thakurgaon, 4,295 in Dinajpur and 1,403 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 91,420 collected samples were tested in the division till Monday, and of them, 14,905 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of about 16.30 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 13,519 with the recovery of 50 more infected people in the division on Monday raising the average recovery rate to 90.70 percent.

“The average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is currently over 5.56 times higher than the average infection rate in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 13,519 recovered patients include 3,202 of Rangpur, 712 of Panchagarh, 1,223 of Nilphamari, 911 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,249 of Thakurgaon, 3,976 of Dinajpur and 1,318 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 276 in the division with one more death from Nilphamari reported on Monday.

“The district-wise break up of the 276 fatalities stands at 64 in Rangpur, 97 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 24 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.85 percent in the division,” he said.

“Among the total 14,905 COVID-19 infected patients, 83 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 13,519 patients and 276 deaths while 1,027 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today told BSS that the COVID-19 infection rate is showing a fluctuating trend in recent days.

“The common people must wear masks and sincerely abide by the health directives to remain safe during the current second wave of the deadly virus spread,” he added.
