People eagerly waiting to celebrate Victory Day in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 15, 2020 (BSS) – The common people are eagerly waiting to celebrate the Victory Day-2020 tomorrow to pay rich tributes to martyred sons and daughters of the soil in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Officials in the district administrations said all preparations have been completed to ensure peaceful celebrations of Victory Day in the division abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Celebrations of the glorious day bear special significance this year during the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Mujib Year.

The district administrations, freedom fighters, Awami League (AL) and other political parties, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional and business organisations have taken programmes to celebrate the day.

In Rangpur city, the celebrations will begin with 31-gun salutes at Police Lines Ground followed by placing of wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’, Bangabandhu’s Mural and ‘Shahid Muktijoddha Smritistambha’ with the sunrise in the metropolis.

The national flag will be hoisted atop all government, semi-government and private buildings with the sunrise on the day.

Officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation, Rangpur Range Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, district police and former leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad will first place wreaths.

Later, different political parties, including AL, heads of educational institutions, leaders of different socio-cultural, professional, business and human rights organisations, NGOs and commoners will place wreaths.

Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan will hoist the national flag at the Circuit House premises in presence of the divisional and district level government officials at 9 am in the city.

Meanwhile, the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings have already been illuminated and decorated with national flag, coloured miniature posters and banners creating a festive atmosphere in the metropolis.

Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local dailies, weeklies and online newspapers publish special supplements glorifying the day.

Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, shelters of older citizens, day-care and child centres, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centres.

Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred of the War of Liberation and martyred intellectuals, progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.

The district administration will give flowers to freedom fighters at their respective houses and organise competitions on drawing, essay writing and poem recitation for children on the War of Liberation virtually.

The main virtual discussion on ‘Owning spirit of the War of Liberation and maximum use of digital technologies in realising Bangabandhu’s dream of building a Sonar Bangla and achieving national prosperity’ will be arranged at 7:30 pm.

With Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair, high officials, political leaders, professionals, freedom fighters, socio-cultural activists, educationists and civil society members will participate in the virtual discussion.

Officials said identical programmes have been taken to celebrate the Victory Day-2020 in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha district headquarters in the division tomorrow.
