Golam Rasul takes place in list of top global researchers

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) – Dr Golam Rasul has taken place in a
database of the world’s top scientists prepared by Professor Ioannidis
and his team, Stanford University, USA, and published in an
international journal recently.

Dr Golam Rasul, a Bangladeshi civil servant, appeared as one of the
top two percent most cited researchers in the Global Top Scientists
list, a press release said.

He has been recognised in two fields in Science – Environment and
Biology. In both the fields, his name has been included in the list of
the top 1,000 researchers out of 1.61 lakh from different countries.

Dr Rasul was a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service Administrative
Cadre and later joined the International Centre for Integrated
Mountain Development (ICIMOD), a regional organisation based in
Kathmandu, Nepal.

He is currently working as a Chief Economist at ICIMOD and is
involved in research in the areas of economics, rural development,
regional cooperation, poverty alleviation, sustainable development and
food, water and energy management.

As a member of Bangladesh Civil Service, he worked in the field
administration in districts, upazilas and in different ministries in
varying capacities.

Along with development work, he got interested in research and has
been actively involved in research in the fields of agriculture, food
security, poverty alleviation and rural development.

Dr Rasul has done extensive research on Chittagong Hill Tracts of
Bangladesh and on transboundary water cooperation in Ganges,
Brahmaputra and Meghna basins.

His research in shifting cultivation in Chottagram Hill Tracts,
provides new insights and options for transforming shifting
cultivation into a more productive agricultural systems and improving
livelihoods of the poor people.

Based on his research on transboundary waters, he convincingly
argues for cooperation that can bring mutual economic, social and
environmental benefits, for both upstream and downstream countries.

Over the years, Dr Rasul became a motivated scientist from a
bureaucrat and dedicated himself in research and knowledge generation
in order to contribute society.
