Eight sentenced to death for killing child in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced eight people to death for killing after rape a nine-year-old girl named Meem in 2018.

Woman and Child Repression and Prevention Tribunal-4 Judge Mohammad Jamiul Haider handed down the verdict today, a court official said.

The death convicts are – Belal Hossain alias Bijay, 18, Md. Rabiul Islam alias Rubel,16, Md. Hashibul Islam alias Liton ,26, Md. Aksan Mia alias Hasan,18, Md. Sujan, 20, Md. Meheraj Prakash Tutul, 32, Monirul Islam Manu, 49 and Shahadat Hossain Saikat,19.

The court also fined Taka one lakh each to the convicts.

According to the prosecution story, a nine-year-old girl named Fatema Akhter Meem was raped and strangled to death at the second floor of Ayesha Mumtaz Mahal, a six-storied building under city’s Akbarshah thana at night on January 21, 2018.

Meem’s father day labourer Jamal Uddin filed a case at Akbarshah thana against eight people on January 22 in 2018.

Meem was a class two student of Fatematuz Johra Hefzul Quran Mahila Madrasa at Akbarshah area.

Among the convicts Shahadat Hossain is on the run.

After investigating the case, police submitted a charge sheet against eight people before the court on October 9 in 2018.

Court framed the charges against them on May 26 in 2019.

The court announced the verdict after examining 19 prosecution witnesses out of 29.

Talking to BSS, Jamal Uddin expressed his satisfaction over the verdict.
