Khulna bats first against Chattogram in first Qualifier game
DHAKA, Dec 14, 2020 (BSS)—Gazi Group Chattogram captain Mohammad Mithun won the toss and asked Gemcon Khulna to bat first in the first Qualifier game of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.
The winner will directly seal the final while the loser will give a shot at the final once again, by taking on Beximco Dhaka, who won the Eliminator game earlier on the day.
Ahead of the crucial game, Chattogram brought up two changes with Sanjit Saha and Shykat Ali replacing Ziaur Rahman and Rakibul Hasan.
Gemcon Khulna however forced to make one change after their pacer Shohidul Islam returned to home to attend his father’s funeral.
Imrul Kayes came back in the side in the place of Shohidul.
Chattogram topped the point table following the group phase with 14 points after winning a staggering number of seven wins in eight games and their only defeat came against Beximco Dhaka.
The second placed Khulna earned just eight points in eight matches—a testament of Chattogram’s absolute domination in the group phase. Khulna and Dhaka in fact had same number of eight points but Khulna played the Qualifier by virtue of better run rate.
In the double-leg group phase, Chattogram beat Khulna twice—firstly beat them by nine wickets at quite convincingly after shooting out Mahmudullah Riyad-led side for 86 runs and second time, though they faced a tough battle, still came out winner with a three-wicket victory.
