Violence in the name of religion unexpected: speakers

RAJSHAHI, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – Highlighting the significance of religion-based teaching and learning in terms of the social peace and tranquility, speakers at a discussion mentioned that violence in the name of region is unexpected.

They identically viewed that the religions always direct people to lead their life peacefully and urged the religious leaders to spread the best teachings among the public in general for welfare of the society as a whole.

They came up with the observations while addressing a meeting related to creating mass awareness about prevention of Covid-19, terrorism, militancy and drug-addiction in Rajshahi city today.

Rajshahi Divisional Office of Islamic Foundation (IF) organized the meeting discussing and devising ways and means on how to raise public awareness on the issues. Large number of Islamic scholars and Imams joined the meeting.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the meeting as the chief guest with IF Director Jalal Ahmed in the chair. Divisional Director of Health Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque, Superintendent of Police Abdus Salam and IF Assistant Director Muzahidul Islam also spoke.

Badsha said the trained Imams and Islamic scholars can play a vital role in the welfare of the nation as they have social responsibility in this regard.

The present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for freeing the nation from all sorts of terrorism, militancy and drugs.

The Islamic scholars should extend their whole-hearted cooperation towards the government endeavor.

He called upon the Islamic scholars and leaders to play their due role in wiping out drug-addiction and terrorism from the society.

Dr Habibul Talukder said the Islamic scholars should engage themselves in the campaign. They should take the responsibility in making the society free from all-sorts of social menace.

He observed that Islam has no relation to any sort of crime and any other anarchic activities rather it is a religion of global peace and tranquility.

Shariful Haque underscored the need for proper motivation and counseling to the new generation so that they could supplement the government effort to culminate terrorism.

The present government is determined to combat crimes and terrorism with collective efforts of all quarters especially the imams and other religious leaders, he added.
