Total solar eclipse to occur tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – A total solar eclipse will occur tomorrow
however, it will not be visible in Bangladesh.

A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the Earth is engulfed in a shadow
cast by the Moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight.

This occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned. Such alignment
coincides with a new moon indicating the Moon is closest to the ecliptic
plane.

In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon.

The eclipse will begin at 7:34pm (BST) at North-West of George town in the
South Atlantic Ocean while it will end at 12:53am (BST) at South-West of St.
Helena Ascension and Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean, said a
press release of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

It said the central eclipse will begin at 8:32pm (BST) at North of the
Adams town in the South Pacific Ocean and greatest eclipse at 10.13 pm (BST)
at Nueve de julio Department of Rio Negro town of Argentina while the central
eclipse will end at 11.54pm (BST) at West of Namib-Naukluft National Park of
Namibia in the South Atlantic Ocean.
