Six brokers held from BRTA office in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) today arrested six members of an organised gang of brokers in the city on charges of extorting money from service recipients.

“We detained them from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office premises adjacent to Kachari Bazar area in the metropolis,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DB and Media) of RpMP Uttam Prasad Pathak told BSS.

The detainees are Delwar Hossain of Kachna area, Abdur Rashid of Bahar Kachna area, Liton Sarkar and Reazul Karim Raju of Keranipara area, Humayun Kabir of Kamarpara area and Al-Amin Hossain of Medical East Gate area in the metropolis.

The arrested brokers used to obstruct delivery of services to service recipients and harass them when they come to register their motor and driving license registrations at the BRTA office.

“We conducted raids in the area and arrested the brokers on receiving allegations against the brokers from common people who came there to receive services,” he said.

The arrested people collected money from service recipients through various forms of harassment.

“We will continue operations to arrest all brokers who cause inconvenience to people,” Uttam said, adding that the detainees were handed over to Kotwali Police Station of RpMP after filing a case against them in this connection.

Later, the brokers were produced before a local court from where they were sent to the jail hajat this evening.
