Charge sheet filed against Pradip, 14 others in Sinha murder case

DHAKA, Dec 13, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today submitted charge sheet against 15 persons, including Teknaf thana former OC Pradip Kumar Das, over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

RAB investigated the murder case filed by Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, and the charge sheet was filed in the court of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah at around 10:15 am.

The court accepted the charge sheet, said RAB senior assistant superintendent of police Mohammad Khairul Islam, also the investigation officer of the Sinha murder case.

A total of four cases were registered in connection with Sinha’s murder. Immediately after the incident, police filed two cases with Teknaf police station and one with Ramu police station in connection with possession of drugs and assault on police.

The RAB official further said that the three cases of drug and assault on police have not been found to be true.

The charge sheet charges 15 people, including former Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das and Baharchhara police inspector Liakat Ali.

Among the accused, 11 are policemen and three are local villagers.

Fourteen accused of the case are in jail while Teknaf Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sagar Dey is absconding.

According to the charge sheet, Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan was shot dead by the then officer-inspector of the Baharchhara Investigation Center, Liakat Ali, at the Shamlapur check post on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road at around 9.30pm on July 31.

Police arrested Shahedul Islam (Sifat) who was with Sinha after the incident. Two members of a social media group of Major Sinha – Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Nur – were arrested from a Cox’s Bazar hotel and sent to jail.

Later, they were released on bail.

After Sinha’s sister filed a murder case on 5 August, the accused were arrested by RAB.
