60 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 12, 2020 (BSS) – Sixty more people of Rangpur division were tested positive today for Coronavirus (COVID-19) at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the 60 new infected cases were reported after diagnosing 314 samples collected from all eight districts of the division at the daily infection rate of 19.11 against Friday’s infection rate of 10.64 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 13.03 percent on Thursday, 15.42 on Wednesday, 15.69 percent on Tuesday, 12.23 percent on Monday, 16.32 percent on Sunday and 15.34 percent on Saturday in the division.

Among the 60 new patients diagnosed today, 18 were reported positive after diagnosing 126 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 18 patients include 11 of Rangpur, three of Kurigram and one each of Gaibandha, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 42 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 42 new COVID-19 patients include 37 of Dinajpur, three of Nilphamari and two of Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:15 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 14,795 as 60 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 14,795 patients stands at stands at 3,771 in Rangpur, 750 in Panchagarh, 1,273 in Nilphamari, 941 in Lalmonirhat, 986 in Kurigram, 1,435 in Thakurgaon, 4,251 in Dinajpur and 1,388 in Gaibandha districts,” he added.
