DU chalk out programmes to observe Martyred Intellectual Day

DHAKA, Dec 12, 2020 (BSS) – The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Martyred Intellectual Day on December 14.

This year, the programme will be held in a limited scale considering the COVID-19-pandemic situation, said a DU press release here today.

Bangladesh observes December 14 as Martyred Intellectuals Day to commemorate those intellectuals who were killed by Pakistani forces and their collaborators in 1971 during the country’s Liberation War.

The Martyred Intellectual Day programmes will feature hoisting black flag at main buildings including VC’s Bhaban at 6.15am , assemblage of students, teachers, officials and workers at Aparajeya Bangla at 6.30am, placing wreaths at the university central mosque premises’ graveyard, Jagannath Hall premises’ Smritisoudha and Smritisoudha of different residential areas.

Later, they will proceed towards Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in the city’s Mirpur area to pay tributes to the martyred intellectuals.

A virtual discussion will be held at Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom adjacent to VC’s office with Vice-chancellor Dr Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

Besides, special prayers will be offered at the Central Mosque and other mosques in residential halls after Johr prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of martyred.
