People demanded exemplary punishment of culprits who vandalized Bangabandhu’s sculpture: Khaleque

KHULNA, Dec 12, 2020 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder
Abdul Khaleque today said the people of Khulna demanded exemplary punishment
to the culprits of anti-liberation forces who vandalized an under-
construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia on
December 5.

“The persons who could not accept the sculpture, are not supposed to have
their own pictures or their father’s. As per their speeches, it’s also not
acceptable to show their faces on TVs and even posting any anti-sculpture
posts on social media as well. People would not be misled by those speeches,”
he said.

The KCC mayor made these comments while addressing a human chain in city’s
Picture Palace intersection area as the chief guest.

Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) organised the human chain in protest of
vandalizing the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman in Kushtia.

Khaleque urged them not to create confusion between sculpture and idols
and not to create confusion among people and alems society as well.

He said there are sculptures in every country across the globe even there
are many sculptures including administrators in the Saudi Arabia. There are
also many sculptures including Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran and in Turkey, he
added.

The mayor, also Awami League city unit President, said, “I would like to
say those who believe in Pakistani ideology that there are also sculptures of
Muhammad Ali Jinnah, poet Iqbal and others in Pakistan.”

He said the country achieved the independence with the blood of Hindus,
Muslims, Buddhists and Christians and Bangladesh was created for establishing
a non-communal state through demolishing communal state system. No one will
be allowed to spread communal poison here, Khaleque added.

AL district unit General Secretary Advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikary addressed
the programme as special guest with Munshi Md Mahbub Alam Sohag in the chair.

Senior Journalists Mokbul Hossain Mintu, SM Zahid Hossain, Md Saheb Ali,
Shah Alam, Mozammel Haque Howlader, Neamul Hossain Kochi, Al Mahmud Prince,
Jubo League leader Shafiqur Rahman Palash, Sheikh Abu Hanif, BCL leader
Parvez Howlader, civil society leader Shaheen Zamal Pon, among others, also
addressed it.

Meanwhile, a protest rally was also held at the Shaheed Hadis Park
protesting against the vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia.

KCC mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the rally as the chief guest.

rally, among others.
