33 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 11, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-three more people were tested positive today for coronavirus (COVID-19) at the two laboratories in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues showing a declining trend in recent days.

Health officials said the 33 new infected cases were reported after diagnosing 282 samples collected from all eight districts of the division at the daily infection rate of 11.70 percent today.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 13.03 on Thursday, 15.42 on Wednesday, 15.69 percent on Tuesday, 12.23 percent on Monday, 16.32 percent on Sunday and 15.34 percent on Saturday in the division.

Among the 33 new patients diagnosed today, 21 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 21 new patients include 15 of Rangpur, four of Gaibandha and one each of Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 11 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 11 new COVID-19 patients include 10 of Dinajpur and one of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 5:55 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 14,737 as 32 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the 14,737 patients stands at 3,761 in Rangpur, 749 in Panchagarh, 1,269 in Nilphamari, 940 in Lalmonirhat, 982 in Kurigram, 1,433 in Thakurgaon, 4,216 in Dinajpur and 1,387 in Gaibandha districts,” he added.
