Collective efforts to protect human rights stressed

RAJSHAHI, Dec 11, 2020 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion observed concerted efforts of all government and non-government agencies has become crucial to protect human rights for ensuring dignified life of the people.

The people of all levels should raise their voices for establishing their equal rights in the society, they told the discussion here Thursday.

Divisional and District Administrations jointly organised the discussion at the office conference hall of Divisional Commissioner in observance of the International Human Rights Day- 2020.

Various government and non-government organisations and educational institutions joined the discussion virtually.

With Additional Commissioner Jakir Hossain in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil, Deputy Director of the Department of Local Government Division Shahana Akhter Jahan, Superintendent of Police Abdus Salam and Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque.

Jakir Hossain said establishing transparency and accountability in every sphere of life could be an effective means of ensuring human rights to all.

He said the human rights situation should be improved collectively and the young generation can play a vital role in this regard.

To mark the day, Rajshahi Human Rights Alliance also held a meeting at Hotel Warisan with its convener Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan in the chair discussing and devising ways and means on how to protect human rights to all.
Prof ANM Wahid from the Department of Law in Rajshahi University, Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Executive Director of Barendra Unnayan Prochesta Foyzullah Chowdhury and local unit president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy addressed the meeting.
