BAPPD plays remarkable role in preventing child marriage: Speaker

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the Bangladesh Association of the Parliamentarians on Population and Development (BAPPD) has made a remarkable role in preventing child marriage, improving maternal health and reducing maternal mortality.

“The various sub-committees under the BAPPD have created communication networks up to the union level which is an effective step. We must continue our efforts to prevent child marriage and ensure social security,” she said while speaking virtually at the third meeting of the BAPPD held at the Parliament Secretariat office here.

The speaker expressed her sincere gratitude to all concerned for extending the duration of the project by one year considering the COVID-19 situation.

She said the Strengthening Parliament’s Capacity in Integrating Population Issues into Development (SPCPD) Project has been continuously implemented since the 10th National parliament and the sub-committees in this regard have been continuously working on reporting to the concerned ministries and standing committees.

Dr Shirin laid emphasis on creating more public awareness in prevention of child marriage.

Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, MP, ASM Feroz,MP, Shahiduzzaman Sarker,MP, Meher Afroz, MP , Md Habibe Millat, Shamsul Haque Tuku MP, Abdus Shahid MP, Fakhrul Imam MP, Badruddoza Farhad Hossain Sangram MP and Adiba Anjum Mita MP, were present on the occasion, among others.

Senior Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan gave the welcome speech on the occasion.

Concerned senior officials of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were also present.
