Bangladesh heading towards a cashless society: Jabbar

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunication and
Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar today said Bangladesh has
achieved unimaginable success in the development of digital technology
and in continuation of it Bangladesh is now rapidly moving towards a
cashless society.

“About 70 percent of Corona patients are receiving telemedicine
services at home. Many countries have not been able to anticipate this
growth that has resulted from the digitization of trade and commerce.
Following this, Bangladesh is now rapidly moving towards a cashless
society,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a function organized
by SME Foundation on the occasion of inauguration of Payment Gateway
of Desi Bhalobasi e-Commerce Web site in the capital.

The event was chaired by chairperson of the SME Foundation Dr Md
Masudur Rahman.

Managing Director of SME Foundation Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Women
entrepreneur Sunia Bashir Kabir and Oracle Bangladesh Managing
Director Rubaba Dowla also spoke.

Jabbar described the development of mobile financial services in the
country as wonderful, saying that grassroots people are also reaping
the benefits of Digital Bangladesh.
