No compromise on human rights: Anisul

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the present government considers human rights violation as a despicable crime and will not compromise on the matter.

“The government will always try to uphold its commitment towards human rights and will not do any compromise regarding this even in this ongoing corona situation,” he said at a virtual discussion organized by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) marking Human Rights Day-2020.

“It is the government’s responsibility to check so that human rights do not get violated and NHRC will act as a check and balance body in this regard. If human rights gets violated anywhere in the country, they will first inform the government. If the government does not take any step, they will take action as per law. But I can assure you that if the government gets to learn about such things, it will surely take steps in this regard,” the law minister added.

While talking about domestic violence and sexual abuse, the minister said such crimes will never be tolerated and government is taking various initiatives to give this message to the public. But Anisul called for an adequate contribution from the National Human Rights Commission, and stressed on public awareness.

Presided over by NHRC chairman Nasima Begum, the discussion was also addressed by UNDP resident representative Sudipto Mukerjee, UN resident coordinator in Bangladesh Mia Seppo, and NHRC full time member Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed.
