One gets jail till death, 5 others life term in Ayaj murder case
DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced one person to imprisonment till natural death and five others to life term in a case lodged over the murder of Government Laboratory School student Ayaj Haque.
Judge Iqbal Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 passed the judgement, sentencing Injamamun Islam alias Jisan to imprisonment till natural death.
The court sentenced Touhidul Islam, Moshiur Rahman Araf, Touhidul Islam Shuvo, Abu Saleh Md Nasim and Arif Hossain Rigan to life imprisonment.
Jisan and Touhidul Islam were present during the judgement as police produced the duo before the court from jail, while the four other convicts are yet to be arrested and they were tried in absentia.
The convicts and Ayaj’s elder brother Dhaka City College student Ashdin Haque had an altercation over a friendly football match, which eventually turned into a clash on June 9, 2014. The convicts found Jisan alone in the Jigatala bus stand area that afternoon and beat him badly.
When locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the attending doctors declared him dead.
Ayaj’s father Shahidul Haque on that day filed the case with Dhanmandi Police Station, and the court on November 24, 2016, framed charges in the case. The court on different hearing dates examined 16 witnesses and came up with the judgement today.
