Padma Bridge is response to all conspiracies: Khalid Mahmud

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has responded to all conspiracies by constructing the Padma Bridge.

“The entire country is grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the construction of the Padma Bridge,” the state minister said this after witnessing installation of the last (41st) span of the Padma Bridge at the Mawa of Munshiganj.

The last span of the bridge was put on 12 and 13 pillars around 11am, said a press release here.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina connected North Bengal with the mainland by building Bangabandhu Bridge… She (Prime Minister) is bringing 21 districts of the southern region under the direct road network by constructing the Padma Bridge,” he said.

The state minister lauded the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina and said that the government has emphasized in developing the country with the projects like- Padma Bridge, Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant, Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Four Lane-Six Lane Highway, Metro Rail and Elevated Expressway.

BIWTC Chairman Syed Mohammad Tajul Islam, BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, Bangladesh Chhatra League President Al Nahyan Khan Joy, General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya, BSS Senior Reporter and former General Secretary of DRU Syed Shukkur Ali Shuvo and its former Organizing Secretary Habibur Rahman were present at this time.

The Padma Bridge is the largest construction infrastructure since the independence of Bangladesh initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The construction work began in December, 2014 with government’s own fund.

The construction of the main bridge is being carried out by China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor Company, and the river management is being done by Sino Hydro Corporation of China.

Padma Bridge is expected to change not only the socioeconomic structure of southern parts of Bangladesh, but also create positive impacts on the whole economy of the country. It will also connect many countries of South and Southeast Asia and contribute to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in various ways.

Earlier, the state minister inspected the construction site of the archway to be constructed in Shimulia Ferry Ghat area.

He also inspected the dredging program at various places in the area from Shimulia Ferry Ghat to Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury Ferry Terminal at Kathalbari in Madaripur.

The state minister later inspected the development activities of Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury Ferry Ghat area at Kanthalbari.
