Media role sought to make Measles-Rubella campaign successful

RANGPUR, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Public representatives and experts at a press conference here today sought the vital role of the mass media in creating social awareness to make the forthcoming Measles-Rubella Campaign-2020 a success in the city.

They expressed the view at the press conference arranged by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at its conference room for local journalists abiding by the health directives with its Chief Executive Officer Ruhul Amin Miah in the chair.

The Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) of the Directorate General of Health Services, World Health Organisation (WHO), GAVI and UNICEF extended assistance in arranging the event.

Panel Mayor of Rangpur Mahmudur Rahman Titu delivered the keynote speech in the press conference and answered various questions asked by the participating journalists as the chief guest.

Secretary of RpCC Rashedul Haque and its Chief Health Officer Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz also spoke.

The Panel Mayor said 41,283 children from 9 months to under 10-year age group of 15 wards (Ward no-16 to Ward no-30) out of total 33 wards of the city will be immunized with one dose of measles-rubella (MR) vaccine in the campaign.

“The immunization of children will be conducted at 369 vaccination centres from December 12 to January 24 next,” he said.

A total of 180 volunteers will conduct the campaign at the vaccination centres daily except Monday, Thursday, Friday and government holidays every week.

Dr Taz said students from class one to four of primary level educational institutions will get one dose of MR vaccine in the campaign for ensuring immunization to cent percent targeted children for protecting them from various diseases.

Terming measles as one of the most infectious human diseases, Dr Taz stressed on enhancing public awareness through mass publicity to ensure vaccination to cent percent of the targeted age group children.

Ruhul Amin Miah called upon the journalists for raising public awareness to make the forthcoming Measles-Rubella Campaign- 2020 a complete success in the city.
