DHAKA, Dec 10, 2020 (BSS) – Sabbir Rahman, playing in opening position, hit the form as he struck a 38 ball-56 to guide Beximco Dhaka to a respectable 179-7 against Gemcon Khulna in crucial game of Bangabandhu T20 Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

A win against Khulna will help Dhaka to seal the playoffs.

Being sent to bat first, Dhaka got a flying start thanks to Sabbir and Naim Sheikh, the latter hammered 26 runs off Shakib Al Hasan’s first over including four towering sixes.

Pacer Shohidul Islam brought a sigh of relief of Khulna, removing Naim after he scored 36 off 17 with five sixes. But by then the opening stand reached 41 runs in just fourth over.

Al-Amin Hossain Junior started from where Naim ended but he too couldn’t capitalize on his start after being out of 25 ball-36, that included four fours and one six.

Dhaka then saw a middle order collapse with captain Mushfiqur Rahim (3) and Yasir Ali Rabbi (0) were dismissed cheaply to leave the at 116-4.

Sabbir and Akbar Ali revived the innings with a 42-run partnership, amongst which Akbar plundered 31 off 14 with one four and four sixes.

Sabbir thereafter completed his half-century but got out shortly after that, playing a reckless shot against Shohidul. However, he kept the side in a safe zone before his dismissal. Sabbir clobbered five fours and three sixes in his knock.

The lower order of Dhaka couldn’t come all guns blazing in the death overs, which forced them to restrict well below 200 runs mark, which looked likely at most part of the game.

Brief Score:

Beximco Dhaka 179-7 in 20 overs (Sabbir 56, Naim Sheikh 36, Al-Amin 36, Akbar Ali 31; Shohidul 2-31, Hasan Mahmud 1-23, Mashrafe 1-26, Nazmul Islam 1-51).
