Diploma Engineers leaders demand quick trial over Bangabandhu sculpture vandals

DHAKA, Dec 09, 2020 (BSS) – Leaders of Diploma Engineers have demanded immediate trial of those involved in vandalizing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s sculptures in different parts of the country including Kushtia.

The demand was made during holding a protest rally along with a human chain in front of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) building in city’s Kakrail area today.

The programme was jointly organized by the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB), Bangabandhu Diploma Engineers Council (BDEC), Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Diploma Engineers Institutional Unit Command and IDEB Muktijoddha Sontan O Projanma Parishad.

The leaders of Diploma Engineers strongly condemned the obstruction of the construction and vandalism of the sculptures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country.

BDEC President Bir Muktijoddha Khabir Hossain presided over the event while IDEB President Engineer AKMA Hamid also spoke on the occasion as the chief guest.

IDEB President Engineer AKMA Hamid said that vandalism and insult to Bangabandhu’s sculpture was a direct violation of the constitution.

He added that the misinterpretation of Islam by the defeated forces of 1971 with the aim of turning Bangladesh into a communal state cannot be accepted.

In the interest of continuing the progress of independence, sovereignty and non-communal Bangladesh, all have to stand against this evil force at any cost, he said, adding that Bangladesh cannot be allowed to become Afghanistan or Pakistan in any way.

He also called upon the people to unite against the evil force and build resistance imbued with the spirit of liberation war.

IDEB general secretary Md Shamsur Rahman, joint general secretary Fazlur Rahman Khan, public relations and publicity secretary Sirajul Islam, information and research secretary Shahjahan Kabir and international affairs secretary Md Kamruzzaman Nayan were also present on the occasion.
