Bangladesh sets example in world in women empowerment: Farhad

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said Bangladesh has set an example in the world in women empowerment.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of Begum Rokeya Day, organized by Meherpur District administration and Department of Women Affairs, as the chief guest through a virtual conference, said a press release.

He said the government of Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps to empower women. As a result, Bangladesh is in a strong position in women’s empowerment.

He further said that in order to establish equality between men and women, women need to be educated and skilled.

They need to be given various job opportunities so that they can become self-reliant and take their place in the society, he said.

“In order to make women self-reliant, it is necessary to create women entrepreneurs in various fields. But they do not have the opportunities of proper training. The Department of Women Affairs needs to work more dynamically in this regard,” he added.

The state minister said once women were left far behind as a result of child marriage. Therefore, there is a need to create widespread public awareness on child marriage prevention.

He called upon the administration and law enforcement agencies to take effective measures in this regard.

Police Super SM Murad Ali and Chairman of National Women’s Organization Shamim Ara Hira spoke as special guests at the programme with Meherpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Munsur Alam Khanin the chair.
