President, PM greet all concerned on National VAT Day

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted businessmen, consumers, VAT (value added tax) administration and its all level officials on the occasion of the National VAT Day and the National VAT Week-2020.

On the eve of the day, they issued separate messages wishing all the programmes a success.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said revenue collection is an essential element to continue the development activities of a state, including running the country.

“VAT is the main source of revenue. Increasing mutual trust and communication between the NBR officials and the business community is essential for collecting VAT properly,” he said.

The President hoped that the country’s revenue repository will be enriched along with increasing awareness among the businessmen and consumers about the VAT through the observance of the National VAT Day and the National VAT Week.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Awami League government has created a strong and sustainable economic foundation through ensuring mobilization of revenue from internal sources.

She said the National Board of Revenue (NBR), established by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972, has been working to mobilize resources from internal sources to make the country self-reliant.

Although Bangladesh was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic like other countries of the world, its economy is still in a good position because of the government’s right and timely decisions, she added.

She said the implementation of the ‘Vision-2021 and 2041’ of the government will be expedited through the enriching of the country’s revenue repository and ensuring business and investment friendly environment.

She urged all to work sincerely and earnestly in Mujib Barsho to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
