Ferry services resume on Paturia-Daulatdia route after 12 hours

MANIKGANJ, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – The ferry movement on Paturia-Daulatdia route has resumed after 12 hours suspension to avert any untoward incident due to dense fog.

Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Paturia ghat, Zillur Rahman said the ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route was suspended from 10 pm on Tuesday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the river route.

During this period, 5 ferries loaded with vehicles and passengers were stranded at Paturia ghat and 7 at Daulatdia Ghat, he said, adding that 4 ferries were also stranded on the middle of the river Padma loaded with passenger buses, trucks and private cars.

The ferry movement resumed after 10 am today (on Wednesday) when the fog started to disappear, sources said.

About 700 vehicles including night couches, trucks and private cars were seen stuck on the queue at Paturia ghat at 12 pm today.

Paturia Ghat sources said besides ferries all kinds of engine driven boats including launches were also suspended during this period. The ferry movement has been disrupting for four consecutive days due to dense fog, the sources said.

A total of 16 ferries are now playing the Paturia-Daulatdia route to transport the stranded vehicles, Zillur Rahman said.
