COVID-19:14,601 infected, 13,228 healed in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 9, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 14,601 people have been infected
with corona virus (COVID-19), and of them, 13,228 already healed in Rangpur
division where the daily infection rate continues to show a rising trend in
recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 14,601 as 60 new
patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19
Laboratories in the division on Tuesday with the daily infection rate of
about 15.96 percent.

Since the beginning, the 14,601 people were found COVID-19 positive after
testing 89,384 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday with an
average infection rate of over 16.33 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 13,228 with the healing
of 59 more infected people on Tuesday with an average recovery rate of about
90.60 percent in the division.

“The average recovery rate is currently about 5.55 times higher than the
average infection rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS
today.

The district-wise break up of the 14,601 patients stands at 3,718 in
Rangpur, 748 in Panchagarh, 1,262 in Nilphamari, 937 in Lalmonirhat, 981 in
Kurigram, 1,417 in Thakurgaon, 4,163 in Dinajpur and 1,375 in Gaibandha
districts of the division.

“Besides, the 13,228 recovered patients include 3,111 of Rangpur, 706 of
Panchagarh, 1,197 of Nilphamari, 903 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,200
of Thakurgaon, 3,888 of Dinajpur and 1,295 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
total number of fatalities remained steady at 271 with no more deaths
reported from anywhere in the division on Tuesday.

“The district-wise break up of the 271 fatalities stands at 62 in Rangpur,
96 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 23 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in
Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,”
he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at about 1.86 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 14,601 COVID-19 infected patients, 90 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 13,228
patients and 271 deaths while 1,012 remaining in home isolations across the
division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 90,195 people of the division were put in
quarantines, and of them, 84,538 released and 5,657 are currently remaining
in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Corona virus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today
said the COVID-19 infection rate again started showing a little rising trend
in recent weeks in the division.

He called upon common people for wearing masks while remaining outside,
maintaining physical distance and strictly abiding by the health directives
to remain safe during the second wave of COVID-19 spread in the winter
season.
