Massive waste management programme taken up in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, December 9, 2020 (BSS) – Chapainawabganj municipality has
taken up a massive waste management programme to keep the municipality clean
and healthy.

Meanwhile, a ‘Sanitary Land-fill and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant’ has
been constructed at Dariapur in the municipality on 4.1 acres of land under
Third Urban Governance Infrastructure Improvement Project (UGIIP-3).

The land was acquired in 2018 at a cost of Tk. 7,50,51,000 and the plant
was constructed later on at Tk. 6,16,00,000, the municipality sources said.

The sources added that Chapainawabganj municipality implemented the
project under the management of Local Government and Engineering Department
(LGED) financed by the Government of Bangladesh (GOB), Asian Development Bank
(ADB) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

Executive Engineer of Chapainawabganj municipality Md Sadequl Islam said,
two plants have been constructed under the project, one for solid wastes and
another for fecal wastes.

Towards the end of this month the workers are likely to be imparted
training and in January 2021 the plant would be inaugurated, he informed.

The fecal wastes would be collected from the filled up soak wells of the
latrines as per call and the solid wastes of all the households would be
collected everyday and would be dumped here, he added.

He further added that water would be extracted from the fecal wastes and
would be used for irrigation and the solid wastes would go under a long term
process and later it may be used for land filling.

He again informed that the same project is being implemented in 31
municipalities in the country.
