59 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 8, 2020 (BSS) – Fifty-nine more people were tested
positive today for coronavirus at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in
Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues showing a
little rising in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 59 new infected cases were reported after
diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts of the
division at the daily infection rate of 15.69 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 12.23 percent on Monday,
16.32 percent on Sunday, 15.34 percent on Saturday, 17.37 percent on
Friday, 15.42 on Thursday and 17.55 percent on Wednesday in the
division.

Among the 59 new patients diagnosed, 26 were reported positive after
diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical
College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 26 patients include 16 of Rangpur, four of Kurigram, five of
Gaibandha and one of Panchagarh districts,” Chief of Divisional
Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC
Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS.

On the other hand, 33 new patients were reported after diagnosing
188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical
College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 33 new COVID-19 patients include 19 of Dinajpur, seven of
Thakurgaon, four of Nilphamari and three of Panchagarh districts,”
Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after
completing the testing process at 7:25 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients rose to 14,600 as 59 new positive cases were reported from
across the division.

“The district-wise break up of the 14,600 patients stands at 3,719
in Rangpur, 748 in Panchagarh, 1,263 in Nilphamari, 937 in
Lalmonirhat, 983 in Kurigram, 1,416 in Thakurgaon, 4,163 in Dinajpur
and 1,371 in Gaibandha districts of the division,” he said.
