RAJSHAHI, Dec 8, 2020 (BSS)- Mass-awareness coupled with responsible
role and leadership of all the government and non-government entities
concerned has become indispensable for freeing the society from all sorts of
abusing of drugs besides its illicit trafficking and trading.

Utmost emphasis should be given on halting the intrusion of drugs
through borderlines as all kinds of drugs are entered into the country
through borders because Bangladesh isn’t the producing place of any of those.

The views were expressed unanimously by some experts and stakeholders at
a seminar styled “Mass-awareness regarding abuse of drugs and way forward” at
Master Chef Restaurant in Rajshahi city on Monday evening.

Local unit of Association for Development Agencies in Bangladesh (ADAB)
hosted the seminar discussing and devising ways and means on how to mitigate
the social menace collectively.

Additional Director of the Department of Narcotics Control Zafrullah
Kajal and its Deputy Director Lutfor Rahman and Deputy Director of the
Department of Youth Development Golam Mahbub addressed the meeting as
resource persons, while executive member of ADAB Jalal Uddin Ahmmed was in
the chair.

Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Executive Director of
Barendra Unnayan Prochesta Foyzullah Chowdhury and Chief Executive of
Sachetan Rajshahi Hasinul Islam also spoke disseminating their respective
expertise on the issue.

Hassan Millat told the meeting that people, especially the young
generation and students of different educational institutions have become
addicted to different kinds of injecting drugs and heroin, phensedyl and
yaba.

These contraband items are sold at different spots and shops and a large
number of drug addicts gather at those places regularly to buy the items and
involve them in drug abuse, he added.

In his remarks, Foyzullah Chowdhury stressed the need for modern and
adequate safe treatment facilities towards the drug addicts for their
rehabilitation as drug and alcohol addiction is a very serious disease.

He pointed out that addiction can tear families and destroy lives. So,
all the government and non-government organizations concerned should come
forward and work together with the anti-drugs campaign to make it a total
success.

Lutfor Rahman mentioned that the people who inject drugs and suffer from
addiction need a great deal of professional help to overcome this disease.

Collective participation of all government and non-government
organizations concerned has become an urgent need for freeing the society
from abuse of drugs.

Besides, there is no alternative to make all the existing movements and
efforts of preventing drug abuse effective and fruitful to protect the young
generation from further degradation.
