Journalists urged to circulate government’s development works

FARIDPUR, Dec 8, 2020 (BSS) – Journalists were urged to present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government’s development and humanitarian works to people from a function arranged for local newsmen.

Faridpur district administration organized the “Meet the Press” at conference hall of district commissioner (DC) on Monday afternoon aimed at inspiring journalists to report about development works here.

Deputy Commissioner and chief advisor of Faridpur Press Club (FPC) Atul Sarker said journalists might play vital role by focusing on the development and humanitarian works done by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina across the country to implement Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream.

A keynote paper on the development work in the district including initiatives to tackle Covid-19 situation, social safety net programmes, relief works, forestation, rehabilitation, health and educational initiatives taken by different authorities and organizations was screened by PowerPoint.

At the function, journalists expressed views on freeing footpaths from occupation, easing traffic jams, recovery of encroached roads and lands, monitoring the service of hospitals and diagnostic centres, ensuring navigability of rivers for smooth plying of boat and water vehicles and making environment of smooth spawning of different fishes in Padma river.

FPC president Kobirul Islam Sidddiqe, secretary Moshiur Rahaman Khokon, veteran journalist professor Md. Shajahan, Panna Bala, Zubair Zakir, Belal Chowdhury, Abul Hoshen Azad, ATM Amir Ali Tuku, Nazim Bakaul, Sheikh Monir Hossain, Sumon Islam, SM Moniruzzaman and Muizzur Rahaman Robi, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Prior to the meeting, one minute silence was observed to pay tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives and shed blood in fight with Pakistani occupation force in 1971.

Around 65 journalists from different print and electronic media in the district attended the program.
