DAE takes schemes boost boro cultivation in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Dec 8, 2020(BSS) – Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme for boosting the cultivation of Boro paddy in the six upazilas of the district this season.

According to the department sources, a total of 55,311 hectares of land will be brought under Boro paddy cultivation. Of the total lands, 54300 hectares of land will be cultivated under high yielding variety (HYV) of paddy and 1011 hectares are under local variety.

Shovan Kamur Dhar, deputy director of the department, said that there was no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district.

He said that farmers of the district had already started planting the Boro seedlings in different areas of the district and about 20 per cent of the land had been cultivated in the district so far.

The deputy director said that the cultivation would continue till the second week of February. He said over 234750 tonnes of Boro paddy would be produced in the district this season if there the weather conditions remained favourable.

Dhar said the local department of agriculture extension had provided the farmers with logistic support including seeds and fertilizers.

Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Sonali Bank, Agrani Bank, Janata Bank and Bangladesh Rural Development Board were distributing short-term loans among the farmers to help boost cultivation of the paddy variety.
