Rahi focused on Test format amid T20 cricket

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2020 (BSS) – Fast bowler Abu Jayed Rahi, considered as the longer format bowler, kept his full focus on Test cricket despite playing the Bangabandhu T20 Cup for Fortune Barishal.

Bangladesh is all set to enter the International cricket in January when West Indies will visit the country. The Caribbean side will also play a three-match Test series here.

For West Indies series, Bangladesh however will start their preparation camp from December 25, the BCB officials said.

Abu Jayed Rahi is looking at the practice camp to prepare himself for the Test series. The last Test was played in February this year against Zimbabwe after which cricket matches in Bangladesh were halted due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Rahi believes a few weeks camp would be enough to help them get back into the groove.

“I really needed the tournaments I was playing,” Rahi told reporters on Monday. “The camp will start from December 25. Maybe there we will start practicing with red ball again. After a few weeks of practice, hopefully we can return to our previous position.”

“Our focus is on Test cricket despite playing T20 tournament. After the completion of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup we will practice with red ball cricket as much as possible,” he added.

To make up for the lack of preparation, Rahi said, they are using the Bangabandhu T20 Cup as platform.

“Even though a Test bowler needs to bowl more with new balls and bowl more overs, the T20 tournament is also helpful. It at least gives us an opportunity to be in match. At the same time, we are working to keep us fit,” he said.
