Drug dealer Topu sentenced to 15 years
DHAKA, Dec 07, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced drug dealer Mohammad Iqbal alias Topu to 15 years in prison in a case involving the recovery of 60,000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets in 2018.
The court also sentenced him a fine of taka 10, 000 and another six months in jail for non-payment of the fine.
Dhaka Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Rabiul Alam pronounced the verdict today.
He was produced before the court from jail before the verdict was announced. Following the verdict, the court ordered to send the accused to jail on a warrant.
According to the complaint of the case, on August 17, 2018, DB police arrested drug dealer Mohammad Nasif Iqbal alias Tapu with 60,000 pieces of yaba from Fulbaria area under Shahbagh police station in the capital.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against him with Shahbagh police station.
On February 10, 2019, DB sub-inspector Sultan Mahmud Chowdhury filed a chargesheet against him.
On November 28 of the same year, the court framed charges against the accused. Nine people testified in court at different times in the case.
