Fundamentalist forces get patronization from political parties to make ill efforts: Hasan

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2020 (BSS)- Sharply criticising the recent activities of fundamentalist forces, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said there is political patronization behind the ill efforts of fundamentalist forces in the country.

“Actually, the ill fundamentalist forces, who are now giving fotowas against sculpture, hide in the country and try to lift the hood from time to time. There is no way to allow them. We should keep in mind that Bangladesh achieved independence through defeating the evil forces,” he said.

The minister made the comments while replying to a query after addressing a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Climate Change Journalists Forum (BCCJF) at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan was present at the meeting.

The information minister said the evil fundamentalist forces get patronization from a political party. But, there are also sculptures of that party’s founder at different places across the country, he added.

There is no room for ill fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh which achieved independence through the blood of Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

About BNP’s comments on the Rohingyas issue, the minister said the all people of the country and Rohingyas have welcomed their shifting to Bhashan Char. The Rohingys are very happy who went there and they told that they would like to stay there till their return home, he added.

Now, he said, the BNP statement seems that they do not want Rohingyas to be well. The facilities in Bhasanchar are much better than in Europe where the refugees are kept, he said, adding, actually, BNP wants the Rohingya issue to remain alive.

He said the Rohingyas who came in Bangladesh during their regime, are still in the country. “I would like to urge them (BNP) to look into that matter,” he added.

Criticising a comment of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the information minister said the people laugh at them when leaders of the party, which was born under the shed of army, talked about democracy.

Hasan said BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul can spread hatred and hold protest every day as democratic practices and freedom of speech exist in the country.

About climate change issue, the minister said Bangladesh is the first country among the developing countries which created Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund with own fund under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She also implemented many programmes which show paths across the globe, he added.
