Stamp commemorating golden jubilee of 1970 general election released

DHAKA, Dec 7, 2020 (BSS) – Post, Telecommunication & Information
Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar today released a commemorative
stamp of Taka 10 to mark the golden jubilee of 1970 general election.

An envelope of Taka 10 and data card of Taka five were also released
marking the event. A special seal was used in this regard, an official
release said.

“The maiden general election under the military government of Yahiya
Khan was held on December 7, 1970, after the fall of Ayub Khan. That
election was like volcanic eruption in the mind of Bengalis against
the then Pakistani rulers. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman made the masses jubilant by his massive win as a result
of his struggle for 23 years,” the minister said in a statement
marking the day.

Jabbar said the Bengali nation gave absolute verdict for an
independent state through that election and Bangabandhu’s symbol of
boat became the symbol of independence.
