Increasing passenger service is main goal of ‘Railway Service Week’: Sujan

DHAKA, Dec 6, 2020 (BSS) – Railways Minister Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujan today said our main goal is to increase the services of railway passengers.

“Our main goal is to increase the services of the passengers,” the minister said this while exchanging greetings with passengers at Kamalapur Railway Station, Dhaka on the occasion of ‘Railway Service and Safety Week 2020’.

The weeklong ‘Railway Service and Safety Week 2020’ is being celebrated from December 4-10, to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said a press release issued here.

Highlighting the activities undertaken by the railways, the minister said, “On the occasion of the ‘Service Week’, 7 task forces have been formed in the eastern part and 11 in the western part of Bangladesh Railway.”

The minister also said that the task forces in charge of the respective sections are conducting activities from the scheduled inaugural stations in- Dhaka, Chittagong, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Santahar, Ishwardi, Parbatipur and Lalmonirhat.

Ensuring safe train movement through healthcare during peak hours, providing first aid services at important stations adjacent to railway hospitals, keeping railway stations, station courtyards, platforms, passenger lounges, waiting rooms, retiring rooms and toilets clean, ensuring punctuality of trains, updating train station schedule and fare list updated, ensuring supply of water and electricity – are the main goals of the week, said Nurul.

Also, taking immediate action in the wake of passenger complaints, prevent fraud, ticket blackmail and other unwanted entry into the station, ensuring first aid, maintaining food quality, increase railway police activities, ensuring safe movement of ladies, disabled, elderly and children passengers etc has been added in the passenger service list, said the release.

Responding to a question, the minister said, “It is possible to save the schedule after double line is developed.”

As Prime Minister is sincere in the development of the railways sector, new projects are being taken up and efforts are being made to make the railways a modern and developed, he said.

Director General of Bangladesh Railways Md Shassuzzaman and other concerned officials of divisional railways were present.
