National Disability Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 3, 2020(BSS) – The 22nd National Disability Day was observed in the district today as elsewhere in the country to bring the persons with disability under the mainstream of development of the society.

This year’s theme of the day is: “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post Covid-19 world”.

Marking the day, the district administration and Jatiya Protibandhi Sheba O Shahazzo Kendra, Gaibandha distributed the wheel chairs to the persons with disability at a function held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) in the morning.

DC Abdul Matin attended the function as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion DC Abdul Matin said, “People with disabilities are an inseparable part of our society. They would have to be developed as worthy citizens by providing them withal facilities, including treatment, education and training,”

He also said the rate of COVID-19 infection is comparatively low in Bangladesh because of the government’s timely measures against spread of this deadly virus.

He urged all to maintain health protocol, including wearing masks and maintaining social distance to check COVID-19 spread.

Later, DC Abdul Matin distributed 30-wheel chairs to the persons with disability coming from all the seven upazilas of the district.

Similar programmes were also held in other upazila headquarters of the district marking the day.

A large number of officials of Probandhi Sheba o Shahazzo Kendra, district level officials, the officials of DC office, social workers participated in the programme.
