66 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 2, 2020 (BSS) – Sixty-six more people were tested
positive for coronavirus today at the two COVID-19 laboratories in
Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues rising in
recent weeks.

Health officials said the 66 new infected cases were reported after
diagnosing 376 samples collected from the division at the infection
rate of 17.55 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were over 19.48 percent on
Tuesday, 20.47 percent on Monday, 28.28 percent on Sunday, 21.96
percent on Saturday, 17.42 percent on Friday and 21.11 percent on
Thursday in the division. Among the 66 new patients diagnosed, 44 were
reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 44 patients include 33 of Rangpur, one each of Kurigram,
Panchagarh and Nilphamari, six of Gaibandha and two of Lalmonirhat,”
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 22 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 22 new COVID-19 patients include 13 of Dinajpur, four of
Thakurgaon and five of Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing
process at 7:15 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal
Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total
number of COVID-19 patients rose to 14,295 as 66 new positive cases
were reported from across the division today.

The district-wise break up of the 14,295 patients stands at 3,632
in Rangpur, 740 in Panchagarh, 1,233 in Nilphamari, 931 in
Lalmonirhat, 966 in Kurigram, 1,386 in Thakurgaon, 4,070 in Dinajpur
and 1,337 in Gaibandha districts of the division.
