DHAKA, Dec 2, 2020 (BSS) – Beximco Dhaka stays upbeat of making a strong comeback in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup after securing their first victory as they recorded an emphatic seven-wicket win over Fortune Barishal on Wednesday.

By virtue of this victory they ended a three-match losing streak, which languished them at the bottom of the table. They are still at the bottom of the table due to poor run rate but emboldened by the victory, they are hoping to make a turnaround in the coming days.

“We never lost hope despite a recurring loss in the tournament,” said Robiul Islam Robi, the man who claimed 4-20 to help them win the match.

“Despite the losing streak, our team management, coaches and senior players reminded us that we are still good and it’s just one win which could turn the things around. So, we got the much-needed victory today and we are aiming to build on that victory,” he added.

He went on to say: “We hope this victory will be catalyst for the success in the coming days. As I said earlier, we needed a victory and one victory could change the scenario. So, we are expecting that we will come back strongly in the tournament.”

Robi said that their disappointing defeat in the first match actually made them morally down.

Dhaka failed to score a required nine runs in the last over against Gemcon Khulna and eventually tasted a narrow two-run defeat.

“We were in a winning position in the first match but unfortunately we couldn’t register the win. I think this defeat made us morally down and caused the losing streak that we faced. Now when we got our first victory, we are confident to make it count.”

Barishal who tasted their third defeat in four matches were clueless in batting as they could amass just 108-8, a score that almost ensured their defeat halfway through the game.

Barishal all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz said their failure to stitch partnership caused the defeat.

“We couldn’t build any partnership, which is important in T20 cricket. We have lost some early wickets that also prevented us building some good partnership,” Miraz said here today.

Miraz however thinks they did well in bowling as they could push opponents to the penultimate over with limited runs on the board.

“Even though our batting didn’t click, our bowlers continued their good job. With just 108 runs on the board, we fought well and they had to win the game in 19th over,” he added.
