COVID-19 cases cross 14,200 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 2, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has crossed the 14,200 mark amid a consistently rising trend in the daily infection rate of the deadly virus in Rangpur division.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 14,229 in the division with 49 more infections reported on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 49 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Tuesday at the daily infection rate of 17.37 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 20.47 percent on Monday, 28.28 percent on Sunday, 21.96 percent on Saturday, 17.42 percent on Friday and 21.11 percent on Thursday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 14,229 patients stands at 3,599 in Rangpur, 739 in Panchagarh, 1,227 in Nilphamari, 929 in Lalmonirhat, 965 in Kurigram, 1,382 in Thakurgaon, 4,057 in Dinajpur and 1,331 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 86,996 collected samples were tested in the division till Tuesday, and of them, 14,229 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.35 percent.
Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 12,951 with the recovery of 75 more infected people in the division on Tuesday.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 91.02 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said, adding that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients is currently 5.56 times higher than the average infection rate.

The 12,951 recovered patients include 3,018 of Rangpur, 700 of Panchagarh, 1,168 of Nilphamari, 898 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,194 of Thakurgaon, 3,789 of Dinajpur and 1,256 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of total fatalities rose to 266 in the division with two more deaths reported from Rangpur and Nilphamari on Tuesday.

“The district-wise break up of the 266 fatalities stands at 60 in Rangpur, 93 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 23 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 15 in Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.87 percent in the division.

“Among the total 14,229 COVID-19 infected patients, 71 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,951 patients and 266 deaths while 941 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today told BSS that the COVID-19 infection rate is rising consistently again in the division in recent weeks.

“Common people should wear masks and strictly abide by the health directives to check transmission of COVID-19 infection in the division during the current second wave in the spread of the deadly virus in the winter season,” he said.
