Canalsin DSCC to be recovered before monsoon: Taposh
DHAKA, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has announced that all the canals in the city corporation will be recovered before the next monsoon.
“Before the next monsoon, we will clean all the canals under DSCC and the initial activities will start with my own funds,” he said.
He made the announcement while talking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing waste removal activities of Shyampur canal in Baraitali area of Shyampur today, said a press release.
“We are taking short and long term measures to free the people of Dhaka from waterlogging, we are starting short-term activities with our own funds,” he said.
“We will recover the canals and we will remove the waste from the canals. Through this we will restore water flow and if water flow is restored, we are hopeful that there will be no more water-logging in the areas of Dhaka,”
DSCC will also clean box culverts, especially the box culverts at Panthapath and Dholaikhal, which had not been cleaned up properly for a long time, he said.
Earlier this morning, he visited Trimohoni area of Jirani canal, said a press release.
Later, Taposh also visited the other end of Shyampur Canal, City Tower in Motijheel, the road and footpath in front of the Chief Justice’s residence and the front side of Hotel Intercontinental and Osman Gani Road and gave necessary directions to the authorities concerned.
During the visit, Dhaka-4 MP Syed Abu Hossain Babla, DSCC Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin, Chief Engineer Rezaur Rahman, among others, were present.
