53 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – Fifty-three more people were tested
positive for coronavirus today at two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur
division where the daily infection rate continues rising in recent
weeks.

Health officials said the 53 new infected cases were reported today
after diagnosing 376 samples collected from the division at the
infection rate of over 19.48 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 20.47 percent on Monday,
28.28 percent on Sunday, 21.96 percent on Saturday, 17.42 percent on
Friday and 21.11 percent on Thursday in the division.

Among the 53 new patients diagnosed today, 34 were reported positive
after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 34 patients include 28 of Rangpur, two of Kurigram, one each
of Dinajpur and Thakurgaon and two of Nilphamari,” said Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal
of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 19 new patients were reported after diagnosing
94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 19 new COVID-19 patients include nine of Dinajpur, five of
Thakurgaon, two of Nilphamari and three of Panchagarh districts,”
Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after
completing the testing process at 7:20 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients rose to 14,233 as 53 new positive cases were reported from
across the division.

The district-wise break up of the 14,233 patients stands at 3,600 in
Rangpur, 739 in Panchagarh, 1,228 in Nilphamari, 929 in Lalmonirhat,
965 in Kurigram, 1,384 in Thakurgaon, 4,058 in Dinajpur and 1,330 in
Gaibandha districts of the division,” he said.
