IO in Wasikur murder trial grilled afresh
DHAKA, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – The defence in the case lodged over the murder
of blogger Wasikur Rahman Babu today started cross-examining the
investigation officer (IO) sub-inspector Habibur Rahman afresh.
Judge Robiul Islam of Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge
Court adjourned the hearing till December 14 as the defence failed to
conclude the cross-examination at the end of today’s proceedings.
Earlier on November 4, the court framed charges in the case afresh as the
state on October 27 filed a plea to resume the trial again.
The accused in the case are- Zikrullah alias Hasan, Ariful Islam alias
Mushfik alias Erfan, Saiful Islam alias Mansur, Mawlana Zunayed Ahammed alias
Taher and Saiful Islam alias Akram. Of the five, Taher and Akram are yet to
be arrested.
Wasikur was murdered on his way to office from his Tejgaon Begunbari
house on March 30, 2015.
Police with the help of locals managed to detain two killers – Zikrullah
and Ariful Islam from the spot. Three machetes were recovered from their
possession at that time. Wasikur’s brother-in-law Monir Hossain on that day
filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station and the detainees were later shown
arrested in the case.
