No V-Day event in open space amid pandemic: Kamal

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said there will be no events in open space on the occasion of the Victory Day (December 16) this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Indoor programmes could be held marking the Victory Day by following health guidelines,” he said at an inter-ministerial virtual meeting on the Victory Day security measures.

Liberation War Affairs Ministry has undertaken nation celebration programmes on the occasion of the Victory Day 2020.

“On the great victory day, the national flag in correct size and colour should be hoisted in all governments, semi-governments, autonomous and private buildings as per the instructions of the Cabinet Division,” the home minister said.

He said measures will be taken to start 31 gun salutes in districts and upazilas along with the capital as soon as the sun rises, adding, “Illumination could be arranged in different establishments.”

However, the law enforcement agencies will take necessary security measure for smooth celebration of the day across the country and avoid untoward situation, Kamal said.

He said security will be beefed up in all parts of the country, including Dhaka, for a smooth Victory Day celebration and intelligence activities will also be enhanced.

Kamal said appropriate security measures will be taken during the movement to the National Memorial Monument at Savar and placing of floral wreaths at the monument following proper health guidelines.

“Adequate security measures will be arranged to ensure security to foreign diplomats (who will visit the national memorial). There will be adequate security measures along with necessary number of CCTV cameras in the National Memorial area. Dhaka to Savar road will also be kept clean,” he added.

The home minister said special prayers will be offered in various religious places (mosques, temples, churches and pagodas) across the country seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyred and peace and prosperity of the nation.

On Victory Day, improved diet will be served in prisons, hospitals, old homes and orphanages across the country, he said.

Kamal said medical teams and fire service personnel will be engaged in various programmes.

Public security division secretary Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, representatives of law enforcement and various ministries were present in the meeting.
