Covid-19 cases rise to 14,180 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Dec 1, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases sharply rose to 14,180 today in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues showing a rising trend during the second wave in recent weeks.

Health officials said 79 new patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 21.01 percent on Monday raising the total number of positive cases to 14,180.

‘The district-wise break up of the 14,180 patients stands at 3,572 in Rangpur, 736 in Panchagarh, 1,224 in Nilphamari, 929 in Lalmonirhat, 963 in Kurigram, 1,378 in Thakurgaon, 4,048 in Dinajpur and 1,330 in Gaibandha districts of the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 86,714 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 14,180 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.35 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of healed patients rose to 12,878 as 45 more people cured on Monday at the average recovery rate of about 90.82 percent,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The average recovery rate of 90.82 percent is currently over 5.55 times higher than the average infection rate of 16.35 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

The 12,878 recovered patients include 2,996 of Rangpur, 696 of Panchagarh, 1,168 of Nilphamari, 898 of Lalmonirhat, 928 of Kurigram, 1,180 of Thakurgaon, 3,772 of Dinajpur and 1,240 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of total fatalities remained steady at 264 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Monday.

“The district-wise break up of the 264 fatalities stands at 59 in Rangpur, 93 in Dinajpur, 30 in Thakurgaon, 22 in Nilphamari, 15 each in Kurigram and Gaibandha, 20 in Panchagarh and 10 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at over 1.86 percent in the division.

“Among the total 14,180 COVID-19 patients, 69 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 12,878 patients and 264 deaths while 969 remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali said.

“Since the beginning, a total of 88,447 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 82,996 released and 5,451 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the COVID-19 spread is showing a rising trend in recent weeks across Rangpur division.

“Due to dry weather amid less humidity in the winter, the virus is currently floating in the air and people should wear masks while remaining outside to remain safe during the current second wave of the deadly virus spread,” Dr. Lyzu added.
