Construction of Karnaphuli River protection dam recommences soon: Shamim

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 29, 2020 (BSS) – Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim announced that the construction works of Karnaphuli River dam at Boalkhali point will resume before next monsoon to prevent erosion.

“The erosion prone area of Boalkhali section of Karnaphuli River is 15 kilometre. Construction works have already been completed for eight kilometres. After completion of the construction works, residents of the locality will be able to save themselves from erosion.” he said.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a rally in Hazirhat area after visiting the Karnaphuli erosion prone area of Boalkhali this afternoon.

Boalkhali Upazila Awami League organised the rally.

President of South District unit Awami League Moslem Uddin Ahmed, MP, addressed the function as main speaker while its General Secretary Mofizur Rahman, Boalkhali Upazila Chairman Nurul Alam, Upazila Awami League leader Shafiul Alam, among others, addressed the function as special guests.

Speaking at the function, Enamul Haque Shamim said he instructed the chief engineer of Water Resources Ministry to start the construction works from tomorrow.

“We formulated this project very quickly, passed through our ministry and sent it to the Planning Ministry to get approval from ECNEC. We hoped that we will able to start the construction works before the next monsoon,” he added.

The Deputy Minister said another mega project has been undertaken at a cost of around Tk 1,800 crore to alleviate water logging problems in Chattogram city.
“Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in state power, so that the development works in the country are rapidly moving forward,” he said.
